The Verdict

Highly recommended

The one for a milestone couple's escape — intimate, theatrical at sunset, and faultlessly looked after. Book it if you don't mind the steep climb back up from Oia.

The review

There are a hundred villas clinging to the Santorini caldera; The Cliff House is one of the few that earns its position. Carved into the rock at the quiet end of Oia, its three vaulted bedrooms and curved white terraces face due west, which means the sunset arrives like a private performance each evening. A heated plunge pool sits on the edge, seemingly suspended over the sea.

It suits couples or a small family — the scale is intimate rather than sprawling — and the in-villa breakfast, restocked daily, is a quiet highlight. The walk down into Oia is steep, so factor in the (included) transfers. For a romantic stay with a view you'll remember for years, it is an easy recommendation.
